Position offer: Engineer

Unit: INSERM UMR 1231 (https://ctm.u-bourgogne.fr), team HSP-Pathies.

UFR des Sciences de Santé, 7 bd Jeanne d’Arc, Dijon

Contact: Philippe Bonniaud (philippe.bonniaud@chu-dijon.fr), Françoise Goirand (francoise.goirand@u-bourgogne.fr) or Olivier Burgy (olivier.burgy@u-bourgogne.fr)

We are seeking for a highly motivated individual to join the Pulmonary group at U1231.

The position will focus on experimental models both cellular system and in vivo models, as well as patient-derived samples, to optimize and better characterize our HSP inhibitors in the context of lung fibrosis.

Main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Execute and analyze experiments on rodent models of pulmonary fibrosis (chemical and adenovirus exposure)
  • Design, perform and analyze standard cell and molecular experiments (cell culture, flow cytometry, western blot, RT-qPCR, ELISA etc)
  • Contribute to scientific publications of the group
  • Participate in students (Master, PhD) supervision

Requirement:

  • A strong expertise in cell culture and animal experimentation and associated methodologies of cell and molecular biology.
  • It is essential that the candidate can work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Written and spoken English.
  • PhD or MD/PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology. Candidates with Master degree will be considered.

Environment:

The Research Unit INSERM UMR 1231 represents a highly stimulatory environment for research resulting in regular publications in high-impact scientific journals including Nature, Science or Cell (PMID 23202296, PMID 26888428, PMID 29091756). In this unit, Dr Carmen Garrido and Pr Philippe Bonniaud head the “HSP–Pathies” team (40 persons) investigating the role of Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) in human diseases. The lab is internationally known for its work (PMID 29650953, PMID 26364610, PMID 25156257). Over the last years, the team has paved the way to propose HSPs as original theranostics (PMID 29437951).

As part of the team, Pr Bonniaud leads the Pulmonary group with the aim to develop original approaches for the diagnosis and therapy of chronic lung diseases with a special emphasis on pulmonary fibrosis. In addition to Pr Bonniaud, this group consists of two pharmacology and cell biology teacher-researchers, a research engineer, a doctoral student, and a Master’s degree student.

Our team is recognized worldwide and develops high level translational research in relationship with the University hospital and the Reference Center for Rare Pulmonary Diseases coordinated by Pr Bonniaud. We already reported the crucial role of two HSPs (HSP27 and alphaB-crystallin) as potential therapeutic targets in fibrosis through their key regulatory role on the TGF-beta signaling (PMID 29437951, PMID 25032514, PMID 24582969, PMID 24307592, PMID 23288928). We are currently developing an original research project which is funded by the French Agency for Research (ANR) to further develop inhibitors of HSPs for pulmonary fibrosis.

How to apply? Please send resume and a motivation letter, including two references to the contacts.
